Driving Lessons
Grant's lessons are custom-tailored to new drivers and their unique experiences. Grant works with new or inexperienced drivers of any age to build confidence and practical skills. Grant's relaxed demeanor creates a calm environment for students and is particularly helpful for students who struggle with anxiety or are easily distracted. Students are encouraged to be comfortable in the car and routes they will drive most, so lessons are taught in the student's car around their neighborhood and school.
He recommends a series of four lessons each of which will cover getting to know the car, safety tips, habits of good drivers, and common traffic laws. Students will practice different intersections, lane changes, and various speeds all with the goal of driving to school (without freeways) by the third lesson. In some cases, a fifth lesson is advised to practice freeway driving.
Each lesson reviews skills covered in the previous one and expands with new routes and challenges to encourage growth. For this reason, Grant recommends scheduling lessons at least a week apart to allow for time to practice new skills with parents, if possible. An informational handout to share is provided after the first lesson to help parents encourage good driving habits outside of lessons.
We will meet at your house and use your vehicle for each lesson. Drivers must have their permit.
A key component of Grant's lessons is open communication with both parents and students. He will communicate via group text with the student AND parent(s); no texts will be sent to student alone. For each lesson, he will provide a 24-hour reminder and a 30-minute heads up before, followed by a short recap of the drive after.
